Introduction[edit | edit source]

The Leaf Kingdom, officially known as the Kingdom of the Trees (KotT), covers the northern region of Pantala. The primary tribe that lives in this kingdom are the LeafWings, with most of their population in the Poison Jungle.

The Kingdom of the Trees is mostly made up of broadleaf forests, alongside plains and Pantala's only mountain range. The eastern Kingdom of the Trees is covered in a deadly jungle aptly named the Poison Jungle. Only LeafWings born and raised in the Poison Jungle are truly able to survive it's harsh and unforgiving nature. Because of the Poison Jungle's past as a place of refuge for LeafWings during one of the darkest ages of Pantalan history, it had also earned the name Never-home by many residents.

Governance and Leadership[edit | edit source]

The Kingdom of The Trees is an absolute monarchy, who's rulers for the past many hundreds of years have all been of the same dynasty. The most recent rulers in history have been Queen Tabebuia, King Dentelle, Queen Wisteria, and King Birch. Unfortunately, the Kingdom of the Trees was far more dictatorial during the reign of King Birch and the rulers before him, only really changing when King Dentelle rose to the throne and began to rule with more grace and compassion, focusing on the needs of his dragons and the trees. This sentiment was taught to his daughter, Queen Tabebuia, who is now regarded as a fair and just queen.

Geography[edit | edit source]

The Kingdom of the Trees has a variety of forests and vast plains. The Kingdom of the Trees can be divided into three main regions. Eastern Kingdom of the Trees, Central Kingdom of the Trees, and Western Kingdom of the Trees, which can be divided into the northwest and southwest. The Eastern Kingdom of the Trees is the famed Poison Jungle, the most dangerous place on Pretarsi. The entire Jungle has not been mapped, due to most dragons who attempt to dying, although most maps can capture a pretty clear picture. The Eastern Kingdom of the Trees is often misconstrued as the entirety of the Kingdom of the Trees.

Central Kingdom of the Trees is mostly plains and prairie as it borders the savanna, although broadleaf forests can be found up along the northern coastline. The region itself is mostly rural and unpopulated.

The Western Kingdom of the Trees is the biggest region by far, and the second most populated, the southwest more than the northwest. The northwest has many rivers and forests, with a large mountain range in its center. The mountain range is the only one of its kind on Pantala, and the tallest and coldest part of the entire continent. The largest and most significant cities of this region are Tranquility and Dynasty.

In between the Northwest region and the Southwest region is Sequoia Bay, home to many coastal towns and important seaside infrastructure. Sequoia Bay is an amazing vacation spot, and its ports intake many valuable exports from the other two Pantalan kingdoms.

The Southwest region is mainly covered in forests, with sparse plains in between. The farther down their peninsula one goes, the swampier it gets. Beetle lake is a densely populated area, being the highest numbers of LeafWings and HiveWings living in harmony. The lake is used by both The Kingdom of the Trees and The Hive Kingdom, and mostly borders are ignored there because of its major role in supporting the Western region and the Hives nearby.

Culture and Society[edit | edit source]

The Kingdom of the Trees has a unique culture and society compared to other kingdoms, especially Pyrrhian ones. LeafWings have a deep connection with trees, and treat their forest friends with a lot of reverence. Those who dare to harm trees are ostracized. The respect for trees isn't limited to the Kingdom of the Trees, however, with many dragons all over Pantala sharing the love for them. That universal love even extends to legislation, as in other kingdoms there are even protections for trees. The knowledge that trees are important resources isn't lost on the kingdom, and trees that are a result of natural splinterfall (particularly as of rainy season hurricanes) are often collected for resources so that the trees may still be of use to LeafWings even after death. The burning of these fallen trees is still prohibited, though. The usage of dead trees for benefit isn't a one way deal. A common LeafWing burial ritual is to have the body laid to rest under a young or sickly tree so that the tree may use the body for its benefit.

It is commonly accepted that fire is horrific by many LeafWings, and symbolizes treeharm. A smaller portion of those dragons believe that SkyWings are the embodiment of fire and treeharm, and are inherently evil in some way. This is mostly recognized as a baseless and prejudiced opinion, however.

LeafWings have a celebration called the New Year of Trees, which marked the beginning of the new year before Clearsight arrived. The celebration was centered around its own calendar, which is now mostly in disuse though many dragons still celebrate the New Year of Trees as a tradition. The date of the New Year of Trees varies, but it is always in the transition period between the end of the dry season and the start of the rainy season.

Military and Defense[edit | edit source]

The Kingdom of the Trees military, (officially commanded by the ruler, although many rankings and other hierarchies exist), is well regarded as formidable and fierce, as are LeafWings defending their trees. The military's primary use is to fight in wars, should one arise, although that purpose has not been fulfilled in many decades. Commonly, the Kingdom of the Trees' military is used as a sort of police force, alongside it's use as first responders in general. The military handles many different tasks ranging from tackling criminals, fending off dangerous Poison Jungle threats, putting out fires, and collecting splinterfall after hazardous rainy season hurricanes. The military is over-all very well respected and praised for their help in everyday LeafWing life.

Poison Jungle resources such as plants and bugs are commonly used in fighting. Often times they are stored in camouflageable leaf pouches.

A war technique called "talkingtwigs," is used for leafspeakers to communicate through a designated tree in one area for information to be passed very quickly. The technique isn't perfect though, as it heavily relies on the designated tree (the talkingtwig) not being the floral equivalent of "stupid." The technique is often cited as the reason every LeafWing troop (called a pod) has to have a dragon with some sort of leafspeak.

History[edit | edit source]

Economy[edit | edit source]

Currency[edit | edit source]

Dis-similar to any other tribes, LeafWings actually use petrified wood as their currency. Gold, even though it glitters, is not all that important to the LeafWings. Due to the LeafWings lack of use of wood (Wood from already fallen tree's are used more for other things important to the kingdom), the petrified wood proves more value to the LeafWings. Saps are the dollar value, while Yans are the quarter value.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • LeafWings have the most active member count despite the fact they are one of the tribes with the lowest member counts.
